Week 1 Update

In Maths, we have been reviewing our knowledge of fractions. Year 2 have been finding 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 and 1/3 of an amount and a shape. Year 3 have been learning about unit fractions and comparing fractions with the same denominator.
In Science, we used magnets to find out which materials were magnetic and which were not. We found that most things that were made of metal were magnetic, but things that were made of wood, plastic and paper were not.
Finally, in our MAD session this week, we had a team challenge. We had to use guttering and sticks to try and get water from one end to the other without it spilling. It required lots of teamwork and listening to one another!

Week 2 Update

The Year 3’s have been working hard on their assessments and Year 2’s have been consolidating their knowledge of conjunctions and fractions. In DT, we have made healthy sandwiches and learnt the skills of cutting, slicing and grating. We also had Willow with us for part of the week. He has been helping us test which magnets are the strongest based on how many paper clips they hold. We are looking forward to our last MAD session in a couple of weeks because we will be toasting marshmallows on a campfire.

Week 3 Update

Birch Class have been very busy! Last week, we had Willow for part of the week. In English, he helped us to write letters to our new teachers. He also helped us test which magnets were the strongest in Science. We found out that the horseshoe magnet could hold more paperclips than the bar and button magnets. In Computing, we learnt more about simulations and we explored what would happen when we clicked on different solutions. We also finished our unit on fractions and are going to recap time this week.

Week 4 Update

We have had a very hot, busy week! We really enjoyed our last MAD session on Friday. We learnt how to make a fire and we toasted marshmallows. They were delicious and Willow loved them too! This week, we have been finishing off our unit on time and writing personification poems. We have also been learning about India Flint in Art. She makes clothes using wool from her farm and natural dyes. We then had a go at tie-dying, dying with coffee and sewing.
