Welcome to Ash Class

Here you will find information about our class and the learning we are going to be doing this term. Our teacher is Miss Aston and our learning partners are Miss Evans, Miss P and Mrs Tanner. Mrs Fan teaches our class on a Monday afternoon.

Key Information

  • PE is on a Tuesday. Please make sure your child wears their PE kit into school.
  • Reading books are changed every Friday but they need to be in school every day.
  • Children earn pride points when they read at home which they can spend in the pride shop.
  • Please make sure your child’s belongings and clothing are labelled with their name.

Our Learning

Summer Term 2

  • Phonics : We are continuing to learn new sounds and become fluent readers. We have two phonics sessions every day.
  • Writing : This term we are using the book ‘The Secret Sky Garden’ to support our writing. We are going to be writing our own stories using ‘The Secret Sky Garden’ structure. We are going to be writing alliteration poems about African animals and we are going to be learning to write informal letters.
  • Maths : During our maths lessons we are going to be learning about:
    • Place Value to 100
    • Fractions
    • Money
    • Time

Our Foundation Subjects

  • Geography: We are learning about the United Kingdom and its four countries. We are going to be learning about Gloucester and London and then we are going to compare the two cities.
  • DT : This term we are doing textiles. We are going to be researching different styles of bunting. We are then going to learn how to sew using the running stitch and use these skills to create our own bunting.
  • Science : In science, we are going to be learning about plants. We are going to have a go at growing our own bean plants.
  • PE : Our PE focus for this term is fundamental skills. This includes improving our balancing and agility skills.
  • Computing : We are developing our computing skills by learning how to create an algorithm.
  • Jigsaw : In jigsaw this term, our focus is changing me.
  • RE : Our key question for RE this term is, ‘does completing Hajj make a a person a better Muslim?
  • Music : We are learning and listening to a piece of music by called Jin-Go-Lo-Ba and it was performed by an African artist called Babatunde Olatunji.
