Chestnut Leaves

Welcome to Chestnut Class

We are a mixed age class including Year 3 and Year 4 children. The teacher in Chestnut Class is Mrs Sullivan. Our learning partners are Mrs Pollard, Mrs Juhaszne and Mrs Smith. Here you will find key information about our class.

Key Information

  • Children need their reading books and reading records in school every day. They need to be put in the blue tray if the children have finished it so that it can be changed.
  • P.E is on a Thursday so please make sure that children attend school wearing their kit on this day. Earrings need to be removed or taped up.
  • Please can all jumpers, coats, lunchboxes be labelled with your child’s name.

Our Learning

Spring Term 1

  • English: We are reading and learning about ‘Treasure Island’ by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will be exploring the book and using it to help us write our own character descriptions and part of a story. We are also going to be writing diary entries and shape poetry this term.
  • Reading: We will be reading and answering VIPERS questions about ‘Treasure Island’ in Guided reading. We have selected ‘Matilda’ for our reading for pleasure text.
  • Maths: During our Maths lessons we will be learning about:
    • Perimeter and Area
    • Multiplication and Division
    • Fractions
    • Time

Our Foundation Subjects

  • Science: In Science we will be learning about living things and their habitats.
  • History: Our History topic for this term is Anglo Saxons and Vikings.
  • Art: In Art we will be learning about sculptures and our chosen artist study is Henry Moore.
  • Computing: This term we are learning about spreadsheets.
  • Music: We are listening to Carmina Burana – Carl Orff in Music.
  • P.E: Our P.E topic this term is dance.
  • R.E: Our key question in R.E for this term is ‘Can the Buddhist teachings make the world a better place?’
  • CPSHE: In our Jigsaw lessons we will be discussing our dreams and goals for our future.
  • French: In French we will be learning to count to 20.
